There is currently a condition called head injury depression, whilst the description and many of the symptoms are similar to conventional depression (general or mainstream) it does differ in one or two most unfortunate characteristics. Firstly in most cases the conventional SSRI type treatment (Prozak etc) has poor prognosis, outcomes of between 10 and 15% success rates are not uncommon. Secondly whilst the severity does seem to fade over time, issues can remain for several decades after the original injury occurred. In one sense you might describe the condition as “bi-polar like”, perhaps requiring proactive management over the long term rather than cure?
